Brescia House School is an independent Catholic day school for girls, situated in the heart of Bryanston.
The school was started in 1966 by the Ursuline Sisters of the Roman Union at the request of the Bishop who felt a need for a Catholic girls’ school in the area. We are proud to be a part of a worldwide Ursuline network of schools that educates thousands of learners annually. The motto of the school, ‘Serviam’ means ‘I will serve’, and a spirit of service to the community is encouraged in the pupils.
While remaining true to the vision of our founders, we welcome pupils of all denominations, encouraging them to explore many aspects of religion and spirituality.
A wide range of academic subjects is on offer, and pupils participate in a variety of extramural sporting and cultural activities. Facilities include an aquatic complex with heated swimming pools, two hockey fields, a mini astro, eight tennis courts, netball courts and good relationships with the Bryanston Country Club and the Randburg Sports facility.
The girls are taught coding from Grade 1. They learn to program Lego WeDo robots in the junior classes and move on to program Lego EV3’s in the Intermediate Phase ICT lessons.
The introduction of wireless technology and laptops to all students in grades 6 to 12 ensures that the students receive a first-class education and are well-equipped for the future. In addition to this, Brescia House School has, for the fourth consecutive year been selected by Microsoft as a Microsoft Showcase School.
The class of 2018 achieved not only a 100% pass rate, but also a 100% University Entrance in their final matric results for the fourth year running.
In 2017 the school launched an online portal linked to the Tuckshop, The Brescia Shoppe and Library systems. This portal allows parents to monitor their daughter's spending and to see her library usage. For the tuckshop, parents also have the option of blocking certain purchases, particularly for foods that could contain certain allergens.
The school offers a comprehensive Grade R programme where fully-trained teachers gently prepare pupils for their scholastic career. Throughout the school classes are kept small and emphasis is placed on providing each pupil with a secure, caring environment so that she can achieve her potential in all spheres of the curriculum.
Even as we strive for excellence and promote the potential of each individual pupil, we are also educating young South Africans to become confident, dynamic citizens. As such, pupils must be ready not only to take up the challenges of living in an ever-changing society, but also to transform it into a truly peaceful and productive nation.
Brescia House School is affiliated to the Catholic Institute of Education (CIE), the Johannesburg/Pretoria Catholic Schools Board and office (CSO) and the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA). We write the Independent Examinations Boards examinations in matric and the school also has a seven year accreditation from Umalusi.
