The Turning Point
The Turning Point based in Olivedale, Gauteng partners with parents and students through their educational journeys. It is owned and managed by teachers who are passionate about children's academic success.
The Turning Point was started by Ben & Tanya McCarthy. They have both been involved in education in South Africa for the past 18 years and have seen the need for Educational and Emotional Support for children. At The Turning Point, every child is treated as an individual and given the time and attention they deserve.
When learning problems go undetected, children develop feelings of hopelessness, and as they become increasingly aware of their 'failure' and lack of achievement, they go into a downward spiral and are eventually labelled as 'lazy' or 'problem' children. Emotional problems that develop in children with learning difficulties can be more debilitating than the learning difficulty itself.

Having taught in the intermediate phase for a number of years, Tanya developed a longing to make a difference in the life of the 'under-achiever'! She saw the potential in these children and decided that she wanted to be instrumental in unlocking the barriers that so many children experience. She therefore went on to study her Honours in Psychology, as well as Remedial Therapy. Her goal is to help children to reach their full God-given potential and to become the best that they can be academically. Her love for children and their well-being is evident in the fact that, from a young age she was involved in 'kids' church' and youth work in many different forms.
